The Director guides, nurtures, and trusts.
Kayla’s journey as a director has been from one of coincidence to one of confidence. They have grown from an accidental leader to a powerful and invigorating director. Studying directing at SDSU under the mentorship of Jesca Prudencio, they have explored site-specific, interdisciplinary, and experimental forms, investigating methods of direction through Neutral, Poetic Contemporary, Greek, and Chekhov pieces. Throughout their training, Kayla has expanded their toolbox, focusing on the safety of the room, the trust between players, open communication, constant collaboration, and spiritual connection to the story being told. Kayla’s work has also led them to an interest in intimacy directing and choreography. They highlight mental health and the higher self in their raw, unfiltered, vulnerable art. Directing is humanity.
